Domestic missions have become a crucial need in the United States. There are many towns in the States that either have no church of Christ, or they are dying out. There are also many congregations that have active members, but simply can’t afford a full-time evangelist to come work for them. In addition, there are also many young men who have the desire to labor full-time in the kingdom but lack the experience to effectively lead a congregation of the Lord’s church. Margaret Street wants to fill that gap by helping prepare potential evangelists and also providing workers to assist congregations in need.

MISSION: USA MISSISSIPPI
Trevor Smoot, a 2021 graduate of Bear Valley Bible Institute in Denver, CO recently came work with Margaret Street as our “Domestic Missionary.” We are excited to have Trevor and he has been doing a great job. He is currently serving in Amory, Mississippi.

The Margaret Street Church of Christ has been actively involved in various mission works, both locally and in foreign fields, for many years. The members of our congregation take the Great Commission very seriously about reaching the lost, even “unto the uttermost parts of the earth.” (Matthew 28:19,20; Acts 1:8).
MISSION: BRAZIL

Our missionaries, Sebastian and Patricia Garcia, are working in Fortaleza, Brazil with the Conjunto Esperanza church of Christ. Sebastian is from Asuncion, Paraguay and is a 2017 graduate of the Asuncion Bible Academy. He then went to Recife, Brazil to train with the Brazilian Adventures In Missions program which placed him in Itarema, Brazil. Since then, Sebastian has been working as a full-time preacher and evangelist in Northern Brazil, having baptized many into the faith.
MISSION: ITALY
Scott, Rebecca and Violet Shanahan have embarked upon a mission work in Italy. Previously, the Shanahans had spent 12 years in Micronesia planting congregations and teaching the lost on the islands of Pohnpei and Kosrae.

They also spent one year working with the church in Galway, Ireland. In March of 2019, they transitioned to Florence, Italy. They are doing a good work and having much success.
They currently have many Bible studies going in Florence, Milan, Prato, Brindisi, Puglia, and Vicenza. They have also visited many congregations in country. Scott preaches regularly in six different congregations and leads mid-week Bible study for two. Rebecca is a frequent speaker for an online Italian women’s class.
Previously they labored as missionaries in Pohnpei, Micronesia for twelve years (2005-2017). There, they were blessed to have taught and baptized more than 100 souls and establish two new congregations. In 2017 they decided to leave the work in Micronesia, though they loved their island brethren and home. They moved to Galway, Ireland, but because of a change in Irish immigration law, they had to leave the country. They heard of the opportunity in Italy and came to Margaret Street asking them to sponsor their work. The elders, members and deacon of missions decided, enthusiastically, to partner with the Shanahans in Italy in the Fall of 2018.
MISSION: PARAGUAY

Our missionaries, Eliezer and Raquel Perez, along with their daughter, Alison, are working with the Iglesia de Cristo (Church of Christ) in San Lorenzo, Paraguay – just outside the capital city of Asuncion.
Eliezer is from Colon, Panama and is a graduate of the Theological Institute of Latin America in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He is also currently studying Marketing and Publicity at the University of Engineering in Paraguay, so he can use those skills to help the church. Raquel is from Paraguay and is a graduate of the National University of Asuncion and the University of San Lorenzo. She currently works as an Accountant.
Eliezer came to Paraguay in 2013 and helped us plant the church in Ñemby, a small city a few miles from Asuncion (when Margaret Street was supporting the Spradlins as their missionaries). He was initially supported by the Avenida Sacramento Iglesia de Cristo in Asuncion and then Margaret Street took on his sponsorship in Sept 2021. The church has since moved to San Lorenzo to find a better facility and to accommodate several of the members coming from that area. Eliezer has been, and continues working diligently with the congregation in San Lorenzo to evangelize to the lost and build up leadership in the church. He also teaches, manages, and edits an online, digital training program called “Obrero Vocacional” (Vocational Worker)
